For Titanium CNC machined parts, there are many kinds of titanium thread, like head, length and thread type…etc.
We have 27 years experience in titanium products manufacturing. The most important is that we accept customization, PDF or AutoCAD drawing can accept.
And now, we prepared some useful information of titanium threads, as follows(For reference).
Classification of threads:
1. There are two kinds of threads, internal and external.
2. According to the tooth type the thread can be divided into: triangular thread, trapezoidal thread, rectangular thread, zigzag thread.
3. According to the number of lines, single-head thread and multi-head thread.
4. According to the screwing method, the thread has the left-hand thread and the right-hand thread are divided into two types. The right hand, not marked, and the left hand added with LH, such as M24x1.5LH.
5. According to the application, the thread has metric ordinary thread, threaded pipe thread, non-threaded pipe thread, 60° conical pipe thread, metric taper thread
Uniform Thread (UN) , On November 18, 1948, the representatives of standards bodies of the United States, the United Kingdom, and Canada signed an agreement in Washington which makes the three countries’ common thread uniform. Finally, this is the so-called unified thread.
The US standard for unified threads is ANSI B1.1, and the British standard is BS 1580.
Unified standard tooth type
Tooth angle, 60°
The width of the crest, 0.25P; the width of the tooth, 0.125P; the shape of the bottom of the tooth is round
Unified thread diameter / pitch series
The uniform thread diameter/pitch combination divided into three series according to the pitch series, namely coarse UNC, fine tooth UNF and UNEF series.
The constant pitch has 8 series, namely 4UN, 6UN, 8UN, 12UN, 16UN, 20UN, 28UN, 32UN series.Selection and application of unified thread
Selection and application of unified thread
UNC coarse thread series
UNF fine thread series
UNEF superfine thread series
UN constant pitch series
High temperature and high strength use occasions
UNC coarse thread series
This series is typically used in mass-produced bolts, screws, nuts and other general engineering.
Materials with low tensile strength, such as internal threads machined on castings, mild steel and other soft materials, should be coarse threaded to achieve optimum release strength with internal threads.
UNC threads are suitable for applications requiring quick disassembly or possible corrosion and minor damage.
UNF fine thread series
This series is suitable for bolts, screws, nuts and other applications where coarse threading is not appropriate.
The UNF external thread has a larger tensile stress area than the coarse thread. Fine threading is preferred when the tripping strength of the external thread and the matching internal thread is required to be equal to or higher than the tensile load carrying capacity of the externally threaded part.
Fine thread is also suitable for short screw lengths, small thread lift angles or wall thicknesses where fine pitch is required.
If the maximum strength of the external thread is not required, the fine thread can also be used for the internal thread processed on the low-strength material, but the appropriate screw length must be selected to meet the above-mentioned trip strength requirements.
Fine thread sizes less than or equal to 1 inch are suitable for bolts, screws, nuts and other threaded fasteners.
Sizes greater than 1 inch, fine thread not applicable unless the internal and external threads are of the same material.
UNEF superfine thread series
This series is suitable for thin-walled tubes, thin nuts, short sleeves or short joints where short screw lengths and smaller pitches are required.
In general, it also applies to several cases specified above for fine thread.
UN constant pitch series
The constant pitch series is used for parts that have been removed multiple times or parts that are useful for re-refurbishing threads.
High temperature and high strength use occasions
It is recommended to use a coarse thread series for threads with a size of 0.25-1 inches, and a series of 8 teeth for sizes larger than 1 inch.
